Why Do I Still Receive Utility Bills After Paying the Maintenance Fee?
Your room’s payment arrangements depend on the property and contract. Paying a maintenance fee does not automatically mean that every utility is included.
Last reviewed:
1. Separate the costs
- 월세 means monthly rent; 관리비 means the building maintenance fee; 공과금 refers to utility charges.
- Check electricity, gas, water and internet separately. Korea University’s housing guidance recommends confirming what is included and what is charged separately.
2. Make a payment list
- For each separate charge, record who sends the bill, who receives payment and the due date.
- Confirm your own room’s arrangement with the landlord or building manager rather than copying another student’s payment method.
3. Check before paying
- Check the service address, billing period, amount and payment deadline.
- Useful labels include 고지서 (bill), 청구금액 (amount billed), 납부기한 (payment deadline) and 고객번호 (customer number). Confirm unfamiliar payment instructions with the landlord, manager or utility provider.
4. Keep records for moving out
- Keep bills and payment receipts together so you can check whether a charge has already been paid.
- Before leaving, confirm the final billing period and settlement arrangement. Compare charges with your contract and confirmed move-in instructions.
